The System and The Challenge

Context: The owner had already experimented with subwoofer placement and phase in an irregular connected room. The best next step was to preserve that learning instead of resetting every setting.

System: Hybrid dipolar main speakers, one active SVS SB-3000 in the current working state and a second SB-3000 available for a later measured experiment.

Symptoms: Uneven bass and an ongoing integration challenge, with earlier changes producing different trade-offs rather than a proven optimum.

Room Constraints

  • Irregular connected room with fixed furniture and openings
  • Exact main-speaker model and current subwoofer coordinates pending confirmation
  • Treatment construction unverified
  • Historical two-sub photographs were not the current system state

The Starting Point

Room context used to bound the recommendation.

The room was not a simple closed rectangle, so the review avoided assigning every low-frequency feature to a named modal family. The current one-sub state remained the working reference.

Investigation & Modelling

Earlier REW captures, listening reports and later single-sub experiments showed useful patterns. A 180-degree phase test was a poorer overall trade than the low-angle reference, and a side-wall sub position was reported as more even. One intended Left/Right no-sub pair duplicated the Left capture, leaving an independent Right-main sweep missing.

Measured history plus customer-reported changes. Current reference is not a confirmed optimum.

Evidence used to select the first controlled test.

What AudioBro Recommended

Save the best-known state, fill the missing evidence under matched conditions, then change one physical variable at a time.

  • Photograph and record current speaker, chair and subwoofer positions
  • Record toe-in, rear-panel controls, signal route and active processing
  • Save the current best-known state as the return point
  • Capture an independent Right-main/sub-off sweep
  • Measure the current mains-plus-sub baseline before changing geometry
  • Return to the saved reference before every alternative test
The proposed controlled AudioBro action.

No final optimum or measurement-verified improvement is claimed. The current reference is a disciplined starting point and the matched sweep remains pending.

Recommended and reversible. Not yet implemented or verified.

Verification Pending

Current reference not a confirmed optimum. One matched sweep is pending and the next tests are proposed, not completed.

Why This Case Matters

Good consultancy does not pretend every system begins at zero. AudioBro preserved useful history, identified exactly what was missing and made the next decision smaller, safer and verifiable.
